Sober Houses in Connecticut

If you or someone you love is trying to quit drinking or using drugs and needs a clean, sober environment to live in, a sober house in Connecticut may be the ideal option for continued growth in recovery.  Sober living homes are essentially group homes that recovering addicts live in together and share the responsibilities of including payment of rent and utilities, cooking and cleaning.  Connecticut sober living is the ideal transitional step for those in recovery who have already made their way through an inpatient or residential treatment program and are ready to take a step back into society.

Because sober living homes are shared amongst a group of recovering addicts, the rent tends to be much more affordable than it would be if the individual were to live alone. This takes much of the immediate pressure off of the recovering addict and facilitates a better foundation for lifelong recovery. Sharing a home with others who are also in recovery allows residents of the sober house to build healthy relationships with others who share a similar goal to stay sober.

Many recovering addicts use sober living as a way to transition from treatment or rehab back into a situation in which they can live and maintain their sobriety on their own. It’s much like taking a baby step toward living alone and maintaining all of the pressures of maintaining a household on your own.

How Connecticut Halfway Houses Work

In Connecticut, halfway houses or sober houses work by providing those in recovery with a place to live while they are fresh out of treatment and not quite ready to take on the burden of living and maintaining all of the responsibilities of a home on their own. Sober houses provide a community living experience that allows the recovering addict to gain some freedom, find a job, work and pay bills but also receive some support and guidance too.

All sober houses and halfway houses in Connecticut have their own set of rules that each resident must follow in order to remain a resident of the home. Most require minimum guidelines to be met including sustained abstinence from drug or alcohol use, continued attendance at a support group such as NA or AA and on-time payment of rent. Other than those primary rules, each sober house has additional rules that are set forth individually and may include things like no violence, mandatory drug or alcohol screening or continued attendance in an outpatient therapy program.
