What to Expect at a Women’s Sober Living Home

It is not a quick or easy task for a person to overcome an addiction to alcohol or drugs. However, there is a plethora of help that people can receive from detox centers and treatment programs to help them in overcoming an addiction. Another program that helps people recover from an alcohol or drug addiction is a sober living home. If a woman has recently detoxed or stopped using drugs or alcohol after abusing the substance for years, they may require the need to go to a women sober living home to help them relearn the skills they need to survive in society.

There are four main expectations that a women’s sober living home should provide to a woman residing in the home.

Relearn Responsibility

Drug and alcohol addiction takes far more than physical health away from a woman, because drugs or alcohol become their only focus in life. Many women forget how to socialize properly, or how to work and pay their bills on time when they are addicted to a substance. Through a women’s sober living home, a woman should relearn responsibility. While she is living at the sober house, a woman will be responsible for paying her portion of bills, and keeping her part of the house clean, while sharing other responsibilities with her housemates.

Gain Social Skills

Women’s sober home provide a safe and supportive place for women to transition into a life of recovery.

Another life skill lost to drug or alcohol addiction is socialization. A woman may feel awkward in social situations now that they are sober, and while they are living in their sober living home, they will have the opportunity to socialize with other people again. It is also beneficial that they will be able to build their social skills by communicating with other women living in the home who know what they are going through, and who understand them, if they are in a women’s sober living home.

Follow Rules

A woman who is living in a sober living home should expect that they will be required to follow the rules. All women’s sober living homes have rules that the participants must abide by, and if these rules are broken by one of the women living there, then the woman will be kicked out. This also helps a woman learn responsibility.

No Drugs or Alcohol

The last, and probably one of the most important expectations of a women’s sober living home is that there will not be any drugs or alcohol present in the home. This will be a safe place for a woman to come home to every day, where she will not have to worry about being tempted to use drugs or alcohol.
